The Results

According to the rules, of the 77 seats in the Majilis, 67 are decided by contests in single-constituency districts and the remaining 10 are decided on the basis of party lists.

In the Majilis election on 19th September, 56.7% of the electorate turned out to vote. In the run-off elections on 3rd October, 45.2% of the 2.77 million registered voters turned out to vote in 2,574 polling districts in 22 constituencies.

The election for the first time featured both traditional paper balloting and electronic voting, introduced in around 10% of the 9,500 electoral precincts.

The results are as follows:

  • According to the results of the first round of the elections announced on Thursday, 23rd September by the CEC Chairwoman, Zagipa Baliyeva, 45 constituencies returned clear winners. 26 were from the Otan party, 9 from the Agrarian and Civic parties block, which stood as AIST, 2 were from the Asar party, and 8 were independents.
  • In the run-off elections of 3rd October, a further 9 seats were gained by Otan, 1 by Asar, 1 by the AIST block, 1 by the Democratic Party of Kazakhstan and 10 by independents.
  • According to the party list system, a further 10 seats were distributed , with Otan taking 7 seats, Ak Zhol taking 1, Asar also 1 and the AIST block taking 1.

Following the 19th September election and the run-off on 3rd October, there are now 18 independent deputies in the new Majilis.
